Wine Show Successes

August 29, 2019 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

We’ve also received a great start to the 2020 wine show season. A summary of recent results includes:

  1. The Trophy for “Best Pinot Noir” and top Gold medal for our (pre-release) 2018 Estate Pinot Noir at the 2019 Cowra Wine Show.
  2. The Trophy for “Best Sparkling Wine” and top Gold medal for our 2012 Cuvée Traditionelle at the 2019 Cairns Wine Show (alas, no wine show dinner for this long running wine show so no opportunity for me to enjoy a quick trip to warmer climes!)
  3. A “Grand” Gold medal for our 2005 Late Disgorged Sparkling at the 2019 Berliner Wine Trophy Competition (Summer Tasting) in Berlin, Germany (one of only 19 such medals awarded – given that there were 6,286 entries it means this wine was placed in the top 0.3% of wines at this show!) We only made around 400 bottles (yes, bottles) of this wine and it will only be available from our soon to be constructed cellar door at Bream Creek – another reason to book that trip to Tassie for mid to late next year!
  4. Gold medals for our 2018 ‘Old Vine’ Reserve Riesling ( 2019 Cowra Wine Show and 2019 Berliner Wine Trophy Competition (Summer Tasting)), 2018 Estate Riesling (2019 Berliner Wine Trophy Competition (Summer Tasting)), 2018 Chardonnay (2019 Berliner Wine Trophy Competition (Summer Tasting)), 2017 Sauvignon Blanc (2019 Berliner Wine Trophy Competition (Summer Tasting)), 2017 Reserve Chardonnay (2019 Berliner Wine Trophy Competition (Summer Tasting) and 2017 Reserve Pinot Noir (2019 Melbourne International Wine Competition).

The 2012 Cuvée, 2017 Sauvignon Blanc and 2017 Reserve Chardonnay are all currently available, while the remaining wines will be released next year – so keep an eye on your emails!

Cheers, Fred

Three more New Release Wines, including our Trophy Winning 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir!

April 16, 2019 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

Following on from the release of our 2017 Estate Pinot Noir last month (along with our 2018 Pinot Grigio and 2018 Pinot Rosé), we’re now pleased to announce the release of our 2016 Reserve Pinot Noir. Late last year this wine was awarded the Trophy for “Best Pinot Noir” at the 2018 Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition, in addition to six gold medals in wine shows both in Australian and overseas wine shows. We’ve also just heard on the grapevine (pun intended) that esteemed wine writer James Halliday is going to feature this wine in an upcoming Winter Reds special in The Australian newspaper! This is a complex and powerful wine, reflective of its Reserve status. Fragrant aromas of dark cherry, blueberries and violets flow to a palate showing intense cherry and berry fruit flavours as well as earth and spice hints. With excellent length and balance this limited release wine can be enjoyed now, yet will also reward careful cellaring. More details can be found here.

We’re also pleased to announce the release of:

(a) our 2017 Reserve Chardonnay (made in a richer, fuller bodied style than the Estate, with ripe citrus and stone fruit flavours, this wine was awarded a gold medal at the 2019 China Wine & Spirits Best Value Awards in February this year).
(b) our 2017 Sauvignon Blanc (crisp and dry with lovely citrus and gooseberry flavours, this wine was awarded a rare double gold medal at the 2019 China Wine & Spirits Best Value Awards in February this year).

You can purchase any (or all!) of the above wines via our secure online shop here – remember that you can mix and match with any other currently available wines and the minimum order is only 6 bottles (with orders needing to be in multiples of 6 for shipping).

Cheers, Fred

“Best White Wine” at World’s Largest Recognised Wine Show!

December 11, 2018 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

I’ve previously mentioned the success of our 2016 Reserve Chardonnay at the AWC International Wine Competition in Vienna, Austria (the largest recognised international wine competition in the world, this year there were over 12,100 wine entries from 1,719 wine producers in 39 countries). At the time we were very pleased that this wine was not only awarded a gold medal, but was also selected as one of the top 3 Chardonnay wines in the competition and one of the Top 100 wines in the whole competition. Well, you can imagine our amazement when this wine won  the Trophy for “Best Chardonnay Up to 12.9% Alcohol” but then went on to win the Trophy for “Best White Wine of Show” ! This is an incredible achievement by the entire Bream Creek team ! Unfortunately this wine sold out not long after this news was officially released……

More Success for our 2015 Reserve Pinot Noir!

April 23, 2018 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

We are passionate believers of the future of Pinot Noir in Tasmania – as well as believing in the benefits of bottle ageing our Pinot Noir wines for a period prior to release. We were therefore very pleased to have won the award for “Best Pre 2016 Pinot Noir” at the 2018 WineWise Championship in Canberra earlier this month for our (not yet released) 2015 Reserve Pinot Noir! The WineWise Championship is an invitation only wine completion, with all wines entered needing to have already been awarded a gold medal in a specified list of wine shows – so it is really a “best of the best” competition. In fact our 2015 Reserve Pinot Noir had already won two gold medals prior to winning this award – so certainly a wine to keep an eye out for when it is released around October 2018. If you’re interested in being notified when it is available, join our mailing list (via the very bottom right of this page). Cheers, Fred

Trophy Winner! 2018 Tasmanian Wine Show

January 22, 2018 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

Talk about a coincidence. On Saturday we released our 2014 Estate Pinot Noir and 2014 Reserve Pinot Noir – and the night before we were awarded the Trophy for “Pinot Noir Producer of the Year” at the 2018 Tasmanian Wine Show! I was honoured and pleased to collect the Trophy at the Wine Show dinner – it shows how consistently excellent our Pinot Noir wines are.  Cheers, Fred

Two new releases! Our popular Pinot Rosé and rare Schönburger

December 12, 2017 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

It’s been a little while, so we are pleased to announce the release two new wines!

Firstly, our limited release 2017 Schönburger. Schönburger is an extremely rare German grape and can best be described as a mix of both Gewürztraminer and Riesling flavours. It was bred for the cooler northern European regions- making in perfect for Tasmania. This wine has a complex nose of fresh melon, rose petal, lychee and honeysuckle, while the palate is luscious, with melon, guava, white stone fruit and brown pear flavours. It is ideal with sushi, shellfish or Asian style cuisine. Our Schonburger yield was quite low in vintage 2017 so stocks are extremely limited.

Secondly, our 2017 Pinot Rosé which is perfectly suited to the onset of warmer weather and the coming summer. Inspired by the Provence rosé wines of southern France, this easy drinking style of wine has delicious flavours of red currants, strawberries and cranberries, finishing crisp and dry.  Best served chilled, it is ideal for informal entertaining and would suit a wide range of foods, such as barbequed Tasmanian seafood.

Both wines can be purchased via our secure online shop.

Cheers

Bubble, bubble….

August 29, 2017 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

We’re proud to announce the release of our 2011 Cuvée Traditionelle sparkling wine!  With over five years on lees gaining richness and complexity, it is a showcase example of why Tasmania makes the best sparkling wine in Australia – and also quite easily a match for the best wines produced in Champagne too! Think citrus, brioche, almond and white stone fruit, finishing with lovely Granny Smith apple acidity.  It was certainly popular with patrons at the VIN Diemen events in Sydney and Melbourne a few weeks ago who saw it as an exclusive pre-release – in fact, it was our biggest selling wine! You can purchase it here – and remember that the minimum order is just six bottles, and you can mix and match as we pack each individual order by hand! Cheers, Fred

It’s gold in China for our Pinot!

October 13, 2015 by Rafe Nottage 2 Comments

Yes, we’re also pleased to announce that our 2011 Pinot Noir picked up a gold medal in the 2015 China Wine & Spirit Awards.  This was our first entry in this show, and we think the result is a great testament to the cellaring potential of our truly cool climate wines.  Stock is still available to order through our online store.
