Pinot Noir is the most common red grape grown in Tasmania, and has an enviable reputation in Australia and increasingly the world for producing wines that rival the best from Burgundy. Tasmania is also gaining increased awareness for its Bordeaux style wines, usually Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot blends.
We currently make both a Pinot Noir (in our traditional richer, fuller style) as well as a ‘left bank’ Bordeaux blend of 70% Cabernet and 30% Merlot (the percentage will vary depending on the vintage). Our red wines are made utilising traditional methods including some wild ferments, and are matured in new and older French oak. Our wines are made specifically to be drunk immediately upon release, as well as being able to be confidently cellared for 5-12 years, depending on your preferences for aged wines. Depending on the vintage we generally make an Estate and a Reserve bottling of our Pinot Noir, and an Estate bottling of our Cabernet Merlot (mainly due to the smaller yields) – although we are always playing around with small batch makes in the winery for release to our Wine Club and mailing list members!
All of our current release red wines can be purchased via our secure online store here.
