New Releases – Riesling and Cabernet Merlot!

August 25, 2015 by Rafe Nottage 2 Comments

We have released the new vintages of our Riesling (2014) and our Cabernet Merlot (2012).  Both have already been well received – the Riesling has received 94 points from both James Halliday and Wine Showcase Magazine as well as being awarded 4.5 stars and equal top of category in a recent Winestate tasting (placing it in the running for Winestate’s Wine of the Year), while the Cabernet Merlot has received 4 stars from Winestate Magazine and 90 points from Wine Showcase Magazine.

Cheers

Vintage 2015

July 28, 2015 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

The 2015 vintage concluded for us on Friday 8 May, when we picked Sauvignon Blanc from Block A as well as the Riesling grapes from our 40 year old vines in Block C.   Crop yields are, like last year, modest but we are excited by the quality we are already seeing across the board – especially Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Schönburger.  We expect to release our 2015 table Schönburger around the middle of September, and with many requests for this wine in our database we will be in touch a soon as it is available.

Cheers

New Release Vintage Sparkling

March 25, 2015 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

We are pleased to announce the release of our 2009 Cuvée Traditionelle.   Aged for over 4 years on lees and produced in the traditional Champenoise method from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The bouquet shows bright green apples, strawberry and shortbread, while the palate reveals flavours of citrus fruits, Nashi pear and poached white peach.  With a delicate mousse and beautifully balanced by a fine line of acidity, this wine can be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif – but would also pair perfectly with oysters or a lovely French style fruit tart

Vintage has Commenced!

March 25, 2015 by Rafe Nottage 1 Comment

Yes, vintage 2015 started for Bream Creek on 20 March 2015, when we picked Chardonnay from Block D for our Cuvee sparkling.  Our cool site not only produces fabulous grape flavours but also allows the retention of natural acid which is vital for the production of premium sparkling wine.  While crop yields will, like last year, be modest, we are very excited by the quality we are already seeing – especially Pinot Noir, Riesling and Schönburger.

Tasmanian Wine Show Results

January 20, 2015 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

The results of the 2015 Tasmanian Wine Show have been released, and we are pleased to have been awarded a total of 9 show medals.  Highlights included:

Our 2012 Riesling winning a gold medal – this wine also recently won a “blue gold” (equivalent to a double gold medal) and was placed in the Top 100 wines at the 2014 Sydney International Wine Competition; here is a link to the judge’s comments. Certainly worth its 96 point and “Best of the Best” rating from James Halliday!

Our 2011 Pinot Noir and 2011 Chardonnay both winning a silver medal in very strong classes – these medals again highlight the suitability of these Burgundy varieties to Tasmania’s cool climate.

Our 2013 Late Picked Schönburger winning a silver medal – we have only just released this wine (refer below) and know it develops beautifully with bottle age, so this is an exciting early sign of its quality.

New Releases – 2014 Sauvignon Blanc and 2013 Late Picked Schönburger

January 20, 2015 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

We’ve just released two new vintages…

2014 Sauvignon Blanc – made in the traditional Bream Creek style with aromas of lime, pineapple and passion fruit as well as a rich mouth feel and a full flavoured palate showing citrus fruits. With an excellent balance between fruit intensity and structure, this wine is equally ideal with aperitifs, seafood or richly flavoured dishes.

2013 Late Picked Schönburger – made from our rare German Schönburger grape, this dessert style wine has delicate aromas of apricots, honey and hints of Turkish Delight and baking spices. The palate is smooth and elegant, with characters of citrus, yellow peaches and apricots. Well balanced, rich and flavoursome, but with a clean refreshing finish, this wine is very well matched with soft cheeses and decadent desserts!

Fred’s Vintage Update

January 20, 2015 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

An interesting and challenging season so far with some weird weather from mid November onward. Bouts of strong wind, recent heavy rain and a period of “mizzle” in early December look like making for a lighter than average crop. However, the vine canopies (ie the leaves!) are looking very powerful and unstressed for this time of year. It has been quite mild on average, hence ripening is running to our normal schedule and we expect to start netting in very early February. As the weather seems to have settled and is warming up now we are feeling pretty confident of some great fruit although perhaps at lower production levels than average. It’s the familiar story of quantity and quality – and the latter is paramount in our eyes!

Cheers, Fred

We are very pleased that Bream Creek has just been awarded the Trophy for “Most Successful Tasmanian Exhibitor” at the 2014 Royal Hobart International Wine Show!  This is the second time in six years that we have won this prestigious trophy, and we think it is reflective of the consistent high quality of our wines across a range of vintages, varieties and wine styles.

Our New Releases – 2012 Riesling, 2014 Pinot Rosé and 2014 ‘Mosaic’

November 27, 2014 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

We are proud to announce the release of three new vintages in our portfolio.  They are:

2012 Riesling – this vintage shows rich flavours of lime juice, perfectly balanced by crisp Tassie acidity.  Recipient of two gold medals, 96 points and a “Best of the Best” rating from James Halliday and 95 points from each of Huon Hooke and Wine Showcase Magazine.

2014 ‘Mosaic’ – inspired by the Moscato wines of north-west Italy, this is a combination of our rare German Schönburger variety with Fred’s favourite variety, Gewürztraminer.

2014 Pinot Rosé – deliberately made in a drier style to better accompany a range of fine foods, it is also perfect for informal summer entertaining.

These wines are perfectly suited to sunny days over Christmas and can be purchased through our online store.

Upcoming Events….Taste of Tasmania and Festivale

November 27, 2014 by Rafe Nottage Leave a Comment

For the 25th straight year we will be at Taste of Tasmania (28 December 2014 to 3 January 2015)!  We are almost certainly the only stall to have done the last 25 consecutive years and will be located inside the main Princes Wharf Shed – Stall 3. As you walk into the shed we will be just inside the entry on the water side. Come and take the opportunity to drop in and see us and taste some of our wines.

We’ll also be at Festivalé in Launceston’s City Park over the weekend of 13th – 15th February 2015.  A great venue on the lawns in the shade of those magnificent heritage trees.
